Artist Statement
Growing up in a rainy city, like Seattle, I would see rainbows everywhere, even when life was as chaotic like a downpour. This is what I find is so refreshing about true beauty of everyday life and what inspires me to paint. For over 20 years, my in-depth knowledge of the watercolor medium has resonated with my students worldwide. Teaching is the sunshine that completes me. My students gain confidence with my up beat teaching style.
Traveling around the world, with sketchbook in hand, has opened my eyes to see my subjects with a creative eye. In my paintings you get lost in the sense of place, whether wandering down a path in Venice or escaping to a beach town on the Amalfi Coast. My early career in art direction has broadened my unique painting voice. It gave me the design skills needed to create vibrant watercolor and oil paintings which harmonize dynamic perspectives with colorful light and shadow.
Bio
Theresa’s career started in art direction for major apparel stores in Chicago & Seattle. As a past President and signature member of Northwest Watercolor Society, she enthusiastically shares her knowledge of watercolor through her master international workshops with French Escapade Academy (online and en plein air workshops). Theresa’s work has been featured in Splash, Watercolor Magazine, Outdoor painter and American Watercolor Society’s International Juried exhibition. She is a Daniel Smith Featured Artist and co-authored a watercolor instruction manual, “Make Everyday A Painting”.
