Artist Statement/Bio
This figurative series represents psychological effects of containment, identity, violence against woman, human trafficking and aging efficacy. Some social issues are better painted rather than written. In this series I am enamoured with surface texture, prancing paint around like a conductor. The more problems I pose for myself, the better. For example, nylons on a textured surface. I love painting and have done it for years - through murals mostly. Most of my paintings and drawings were painted as cathartic responses to trauma and signify a very valuable time period in my life.
I graduated from the University of Waterloo with a 4 year honours, Bachelor in Fine Arts, from Sheridan College with a computer graphic graduate diploma and from Nipissing University with a Bachelor of Education. You would consider me an artist in mid-career having exhibited in many galleries in Ontario and Manitoba. Most of my painting experience has been through murals or public art. I have painted over 50 murals throughout Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec and British Columbia in Canada. I have been the recipient of Manitoba Arts Council Grants and 3 Mural of the Year Awards from www.themuralsofwinnipeg.com
