Artist Statement
Painting for me is a process that allows me to create a "theater on the flat”, by incorporating conflict, character, abstraction, and theme. I generally focus on the issues and concerns of today’s world. I hope through my artistic “choices” to evoke an emotional reaction, or if not, at least a thoughtful response from the viewer.
I have undergone a metamorphosis in my work…moving from impressionistic figurative paintings and landscapes in oil, pastel or watercolor, to more abstraction. I continue to love to work in varied styles and mediums, and truly enjoy exploring new paths.
I try to find hidden layers below the surface, choices in the various paths we take and the results of choosing that path. I also love to use text within the painting, Sometimes just words, sometimes passages from literature, or quotes expounding on a universal theme.
