Artist Statement
Heritage fruits, vegetables, and flowers became a particular passion for me after we settled in our 1904 home more than 30 years ago. I grow many of the plants I paint, often planting them far in advance. I particularly enjoy painting a series of related plants such as different species of Impatiens.
Creating botanical art is a very painstaking process, involving close study of the subject, color matching and compositional design. A single painting often takes months to complete.
Bio
I hold a Certificate in Botanical Art from Filoli in Woodside, CA and a Certificate in Garden Design from University of California Berkeley Extension. I have studied with a number of respected botanical art instructors both here and in the UK.
My works have been included in a number of exhibitions in the US, the UK, and Australia. I received Filoli's Bourn Award in 2012 for my painting of Heirloom Pole Beans and I have pieces included in both the Alcatraz and Filoli Florilegiums. I was especially pleased to have a piece selected for the Tradescant's Orchard exhibition at the Garden Museum in London.
