Artist Statement
My background in monotype printmaking and mixed media collage hugely informs my jewelry practice. Each jewelry piece begins with an unplanned, freeform drawing. So much of the work of a jewelry artist requires detailed planning and attention to minute detail and I need the freeing element of my experimental drawing practice to balance that. I love the seriousness of the metal against the lightheartedness of the colorful drawings. I still consider myself a mixed media artist and I see my jewelry work as wearable collage. I aim to quiet unplanned chaos with more structural, organizational elements and hope to strike a balance between playfulness and sophistication in my designs.
