Artist Statement/Bio
Ming Franz exemplifies the unique beauty of contemporary Asian-American Art. Over the years she has mastered the powerful and evocative medium of Splash Color Painting
Drawing influence from the lush forest region of Taiwan, Ming developed an early passion for nature. She uses her vast knowledge of nature world to transform the abstract ink forms into works of art. Her adaptive style allows the splashes of colored ink to have their own voice. Swirls of ink are transformed into mountains, clouds, waterfalls, seashores, forests, with birds and wildflowers leaping from the paintings. Ming was the grand prize winner of International Artist magazine challenge No.86 Abstract/Experimental Art and a certified Golden Paint Artist Educator. She is now experimenting acrylic on canvas and wood panels.
"I was born in the jungle region of Taiwan. As a child I had to hike many miles to school. I continued hiking and is still an avid hiker today. I had hiked many mountains around the world and thus developed an early passion for nature, especially waterfalls, streams, rivers, trees, birds. She chooses to be a landscape painter, because that is part of my life.
Started painting at age eight with my neighbor, Mr. Tsai, an art teacher. I later studied with masters of traditional Chinese painting and attended the National Art Institute of Taiwan. Continued my art studies at community colleges where she resided in the US. In the 90’s I studied traditional “Splash Ink” with Master Paul Hau, she also studied “East meets West in Art” with Professor Arthur Kao at San Jose State University, CA.
This innovative style of art is called “Splash Ink with Watercolor”. It's about using freedom, creativity, and your imagination — about finding your inner spirit and letting it work for you and through you.
I am the author of “Splash Ink with Watercolor “and has had my work published in International Artist Magazine, Acrylic Illumination, Southwest Art Magazine, North Light Magazine, American Art Collector, Acrylic Artist magazine, Artist’s Magazine, Studio Visit Magazine, Kennedy Publishing Magazine, Albuquerque Journal, Mountain Valley Telegraph, San Jose Mercury, Asian World Journal.
