Artist Statement/Bio
Why am I passionate about watercolor painting?
It’s all about the colors, the blues, the reds , the greens……It’s about the colors that are placed next to each other and the ones that are layered. It’s about the colors that sing together in glorious harmony, and the ones that vibrate with tension of complements. It’s about the transparent colors that shimmer with color, and the opaque colors that create solidity.
My watercolor palette lets me paint with these magical strokes. Not only can I create a lovely outdoor scene or indoor still life, but with these pigments I can paint the light. I can paint the way the late afternoon sunbeams bounce off the buildings. I can paint the subtle light just peaking from behind the clouds. I can show translucent flower petals in the soft morning light. In this manner, I can paint an atmosphere that let’s my viewers experience my paintings and join me on this incredible artistic journey.
I specialize in teaching beginner and intermediate painters, and I love opening their eyes to this special world of fine art.
I graduated from Brandeis University with honors, majoring in fine arts. I also studied at Harvard University, the Arts Students League in New York City and the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts. Over the years I have studied with Elaine DeKooning, Mitchell Siporin, Nancy Korde, Skip Lawrence, Bob Burridge, Pat Dews, Don Andrews and others.
I was recently chosen for Inner Canvas, an art show at the Morris Museum in Morristown, NJ. This show featured the work of 12 artists and ran at the museum from October 12th through November 26th, 2017.
My paintings have also been chosen for shows sponsored by the New Jersey Watercolor Society, the Essex Water Color Club, North East Watercolor Society and other local arts groups. I have won awards from many of these organizations.
