Artist Statement/Bio
I began as a Still Life Photographer teaching throughout the Unites States. Eventually I wanted to do more with the stills in the studio, so investing time in learning to oil paint seemed like a natural transition. I sought out artists that I admire and began learning from them. Previous works have been juried into International and National Competitions.
I am originally from Michigan, now living in Northern California painting from my home studio as well as a smaller studio in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
As a representational oil painter I work from direct observation most often painting everyday objects. I especially enjoy showcasing vintage pieces that have been worn by time and made weary with use. When I had a camera in hand I often watched how the light traveled and I find it is the same while setting up a composition to paint. Now that I am not carrying a camera quite as often, you can find me with paintbrush in hand.
