Artist Statement
My work is very much influenced by my love for nature and so my paintings are a celebration of our world and all the things within it that I'm fascinated by. My subject has become varied over the years and my style has evolved dramatically as I constantly experiment with my chosen medium. I now exclusively paint in watercolours, which I find a suitable medium to convey best the beauty as well as the fragile nature of all living things, including us human beings.
My work ranges from landscapes painted on location to portraits and figures painted from life as well as from photo references. Quite often I focus on creating mood in my work to move away from reality and fill the viewer with a sense of freedom and well-being. Through my work, I show people all the wonderful things that surround us which often get forgotten in our fast-paced lives. To achieve those positive emotions, I use bright harmonious colours and apply various textures.
My latest collection consists of paintings and sketches that were produced during and after my journeys to faraway places as well as closer to home. Out of all the countries visited, my biggest inspiration has been my trip to Malawi and Zambia. Here I had the luck to spend a considerable amount of time to explore the fauna and flora. I also got an insight into the lives of the lovely local people. My repeat visits produced a series of wildlife paintings. These were done not only to portray some of the local animal species but also to make people aware of the ever-shrinking population of many of them.
Since my first visit I've been very much inspired by the African continent which is one of the best examples where we can learn the importance of living in harmony with nature and appreciating all that we have.
With my art I aim to influence people in a positive way. I use it as a powerful tool to educate and encourage others to preserve our environment as best as we can.
I use my materials spontaneously and instinctively. My never-ending experiments are often unplanned as I continue searching for new ways to showcase the beauty of our ever-transforming world.
