Artist Statement
My practice is rooted in the materiality of the everyday. Taking cues from my environment I combine non-human elements with evidence of human activity. For many years I have divided my time and art practice between urban and rural locales. My urban practice has focused on painting while my work in the rural is often installation based using scavenged local objects (History of Things, Cribbing, Abandoned Houses) and natural specimens (Specimen Collections, Seaweed Bouquets).
My most recent work 'Islands' explores the notion of island as site of displacement, renewal and imagination. Islands also signify the effects of climate change with rising water levels; they provide shelter from the storm and solace for the soul.
