Artist Statement/Bio
"I was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. While growing up in New Orleans I stayed intrigued with the charm of the old city and fascinated by the style and character of the antiques in my dad’s and grandfathers antique galleries on Magazine Street- my love for art grew.
Painting and illustrating have been one of my passions in life. It's always exciting to experience the transformation of a simple drawing into a painting, alive with color and movement. I become captivated by light and the effects it has on color. The paintings are in a realist style part of the time, but I also enjoy creating very eclectic pieces. Each element in the painting must be in perfect harmony with the overall composition for it to be considered successful. The goal is to reach the highest artistic level: to create paintings that will not only meet but will surpass all expectations, in portraits, landscapes, or anything else artistically imaginative."
Camille studied at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Art.
She has worked as a freelance artist and book illustrator since 1993, Illustrating over 15 books. The State Library of Louisiana chose her most recently illustrated book ”Goodnight Acadiana” as the sole book to represent the state for the 2012 National Book Festival in Washington D.C.
Her paintings have won numerous awards, including a national competition for members of the Portrait Society of America. Her work has been shown the national television program “How’d you get so rich” hosted by Joan Rivers.
She has done commission work for hospitals, government officials, and some really amazing people.
She’s recently completed painting a portrait of Governor and Mrs. Jindal’s children.
