Artist Statement
My artwork documents my actual experiences as I discover the beauty of the natural world around me. The inspiration for my work comes from time spent at my summer home in southwest Newfoundland, my beautiful home on Lake Erie, and my travels around the world.
Although there is a strong emotional connection to the subject matter of my work, creating a piece with a powerful visual impact is most important to me.
I love to paint what I see and capturing color, movement and light is something I am particularly interested in. Photos form the basis for a piece and then composition is considered. To achieve texture and depth I apply paint thickly, using palette knives or brushes and often
prefer the strong texture of wood as a base.
My work has crossed many styles and mediums. As a creator, I am always looking for a new challenge
and a unique way to approach a work in progress.
My focus is currently on creating collaborative works, mixing styles, mediums and intention to create a unique work of art that offers a unique viewing experience.
